Members of the Juridic –advisory Board of the Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) have stressed the need for discipline amongst students and lecturers of the university as a core that must not be compromised in the teaching and learning processes of the university. This emphasis was made during the Juridic –Advisory Board meeting of CUIB which took place on Thursday May 23rd,2024 at the Bishop’s conference hall in small soppo-Buea.
Welcoming the Board members to the meeting, the Chancellor of CUIB Bishop Michael Bibi, Bishop of Buea, stated that the Juridic-Advisory Board is one that advices the Chancellor on the running of the University. He expressed thanks to the former president Prof. Victor Julius Ngoh, for his services rendered to the university during its three years of transition. He thanked the new president Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Anyanwu and team for the successes recorded in CUIB and for the continuity in safeguarding the mission and the vision of the university .
Justice Maurine Chibili; judge and member of the Juridic Advisory Board while reminding the Board of its tasks, noted that the Board has been reviewing the articles of the Statute of the university: a document which has been looked at by the Apostolic Nuncio and the Dicastery for Education for implementation in the running of the university.
Reverend Fr. Bartholomew Anyanwu in his report, noted that quality service and entrepreneurial quality has been the hallmark for CUIB. This he said has been strengthened through their academic program characterized by practical learning, entrepreneurship, research and different partnerships established with national and foreign institutions.
He further explained that indiscipline from some few has been an area of concern within the university. However, despite these challenges, the President said making the difference in the face of current realities still remains the focus in order to guarantee that CUIB graduates job creators.
During the meeting, members recapped that the students and faculty must be aware of their obligations towards the university and the university management was mandated to set clear policies related to issues of indiscipline and the sanctions tied to them.
The Juridic Board members highlighted that indiscipline should be a no tolerant zone as far as the running of the university is concerned. They called on the president to put in place measures to call workers to order and sanctions accorded to them as per the policies of the university and the labour code.
Bishop Michael Bibi expressed thanks to the members of the board for their sacrifices they make in journeying with the university.
