300 students, found worthy in character and in learning have been declared graduates of the 2023 batch of the Catholic University Institute of Buea CUIB; the Growth Mindset Entrepreneurial University. Drawing from the school of Agricultural Science, Business, Engineering, and Information Technology, these graduates named the batch of resilience, were urged to keep trusting in God as they embrace a new era in their career path, and to be guided by the principle of the common good which is an antidote against all forms of selfishness and egoism.
In a Eucharistic celebration opening this event, the chief celebrant Bishop Michael Bibi, Bishop of Buea and Chancellor of CUIB, challenged the graduating students to surrender themselves to God in total submission and never to compromise human dignity.
The second part of the 10th commencement ceremony was marked by academic rituals beginning with an academic procession of students, academic dons and dignitaries.
Speaking to these students on the theme “the Spirit of Excellence as a Force that Drives the Entrepreneurial World Today” the Keynote speaker; Dr. Daniel Ekongwe, Associate Professor of peace, governance and development with the United Nations, University for Peace( UPEACE) Africa Program, called on the graduates to be innovators who challenge the status quo with new ideas and inventions that will lead to sustainable development. He further urged them to be dedicated and consistent in the projects they believe in, while building strong networks of people who will help them succeed and shutting down the doors that do not promote growth.
The commencement ceremony provided an opportunity for the president of CUIB Rev. FR. Bartholomew Anyanwu, to commend the graduates for their exhibition of resilience throughout their stay in CUIB. He echoed sentiments of gratitude to the parents for standing tall by these children throughout their academic journey.
In a spirit of recognizing excellence, awards were granted to outstanding graduates for a job well done. These awards among others include the Chancellors’ award which was handed to the best graduating student as well as the president’s award handed to the most disciplined grandaunt.
The event also witnessed the graduation of the 3rd batch of Master’s students from CUIB; the City of Saints and scholars.
