Ahead of the forthcoming academic year, Principals, accountants, bursars, and superintendents of the Catholic Education Family rallied in the Bishop’s conference hall at Small Soppo on Wednesday August 1st, 2024, for a review of the past academic year and to discuss workable strategies for a successful academic year 2024/2025.
The Bishop of Buea and Proprietor of Catholic Schools, Mgr Michael Bibi, while addressing members of the Catholic Education Family, lauded their hard work in the training of students and pupils entrusted to their care. He congratulated the secondary schools on their brilliant performance at the 2024 GCE examination. The Bishop further stressed the importance of collaboration among sister institutions in the Diocese and reminded participants of the no tolerance for financial mismanagement in all schools. ” No one is allowed to collect finances from parents or guidance and all finances must be paid to Regina Pacis Micro Finance -REPAFIN and not to any individual” the Bishop stated and also added that the policies of the Diocese regarding the functioning of schools must be implemented to the later.
The forum was also opened for reports from different schools, during which members presented challenges including a lack of office space in some schools, recalcitrant students, and difficulties in transportation, among others.
After listening to the various reports, the Bishop and Proprietor reassured the schools that steps will be taken to improve on some of the difficulties mentioned and invited the principals to take up their responsibilities and make the school environment comfortable for learning.
Another area of concern raised by participants during the meeting was lack of respect for school’s regulations and indiscipline for which it was concluded that discipline among students is an aspect which should not be compromised as the new year kick starts. The bishop cautioned the management body against poor practices in schools and indicated that the quality of education rendered by these schools should be reflected in the results of the students.
