Catechists from all seven Deaneries of the Diocese of Buea have been appreciated for the sacrifices their in teaching the gospel and in growing the Church in the Diocese of Buea. In a Eucharistic celebration to open the 2024 Annual General Assembly of the catechists of the Diocese of Buea, Bishop Michael Bibi, chief catechist of Buea Diocese, challenged them to be responsible as they carry out their roles and to be true witnesses to the teachings of the Gospel.
Their actions, he noted, should encourage others to grow in their spiritual lives. Despite the challenges they go through, Bishop Michael Bibi told them, not to give up while reassuring them of his support and that of the priests towards facilitating their works of evangelization. “Do not be afraid, for we are behind you to support you the prelate told them.
The annual general assembly of the catechists is part of the activities marking the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of creation of the Diocese of Buea. Cognizant of the importance of the roles played by the catechists in fostering evangelization, the Bishop encouraged these teachers of the faith to support one another and to remain steadfast in carrying out their function which he says is rarely being recognized by many.
He further called on them to come together and work with the Diocese for proper categorization so that they should be able to receive proper remuneration for the work they put in.
The opening mass was a moment for these teachers of the Gospel to give thanks to God for the blessings and guardians received and to pray for a successful annual general assembly 2024.
After the Eucharistic celebration which took place at St. Charles Lwanga Parish in Molyko-Buea on Friday, March 19, 2024, the catechists convened in the Molyko parish hall for their annual assembly.
The coordinator of the catechists, during the meeting, lauded efforts made by the Bishop in answering major requests which were made in 2020 with key being the policy that guides them. They expressed gratitude to the bishop while noting that this policy which covers areas like housing, retirement, sickness and death of a catechist amongst others, is being implemented in some parishes while others are yet to abide to the implementation.
Bishop Michael while thanking the outgoing executives, encouraged the incoming leaders to work for the good of the assembly and that of the church. He assured them that their concerns shall be visited and asked that they work closely with their president so that matters should be addressed properly and on time.
