The training program for catechists in the Diocese of Buea successfully met its objectives at the end of a four-day seminar held from Sunday, January 11 to Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at the Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Centre in Molyko, Buea.
A total of 90 catechists drawn from different parishes across the diocese took part in the intensive formation aimed at fortifying their mission as catechists and deepening their competence in teaching Catholic doctrine for the evangelization of more Christians.
The seminar was sponsored by Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) and organized under the directives of the Bishop of Buea, His Lordship Michael Miabesue Bibi.

During the course of the program, participants studied key subjects including Liturgy, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Church History, Canon Law, and other areas essential to catechetical ministry. The training was facilitated by experienced priests and resource persons who provided both doctrinal clarity and practical pastoral guidance.
In his closing remarks, Rev. Fr. James Ngemngong, Director of St. John Paul II Institute of Theology, urged the catechists to remain true ambassadors of Christ in their parishes and communities. He emphasized that catechists are frontline agents of evangelization and called on them to live exemplary Christian lives that reflect the faith they teach.
Participants expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity for ongoing formation.
Mr. Ukam Paul, Diocesan President of the Association of Catechists, Diocese of Buea, thanked the Chief Shepherd and the facilitators for making the training possible. He shared that he goes back enriched, particularly with additional knowledge in Latin and the liturgical practices of the Church.
Catechist Folefac née Eveline Fobellah, from St. Ignatius Parish, Wonya Mavio, testified that the seminar provided “important lessons that will be hard to forget,” noting that the sessions were both spiritually enriching and intellectually enlightening.
The Diocese of Buea continues to give priority to the training and accompaniment of catechists who play a vital role in the life of the Church, especially in faith formation, preparation for the sacraments, and support to priests in parish pastoral work.
