
On August 22, 2025, catechists of the Diocese of Buea gathered at Bishop Rogan College in Small Soppo for a formative meeting aimed at deepening their understanding of their roles within the diocese and strengthening their commitment to the Church’s mission. This gathering comes at a time when the Church is emphasizing grassroots involvement in implementing its provincial pastoral plan.
The session drawing catechist from parishes in the Diocese and tutored by Rev Father Amstrong Ndi, focused on clarifying the responsibilities of catechists in ensuring the proper functioning of parish structures and supporting the life of the Church at the community level. Through collaborative discussions, the catechists explored ways to confront pastoral challenges in alignment with Church guidelines and the Bamenda Provincial Pastoral Plan.

Recognizing their primary role in the spiritual formation of children and young Christians, the meeting also underscored the importance of catechists as key transmitters of Catholic doctrine, values, and discipline. As faith educators and teachers of doctrine, their contributions remains indispensable to building strong, vibrant, and faithful parish communities.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to the catechetical mission of the Church in the Diocese of Buea.
