On Thursday, November 27th, 2025, the WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) team of Caritas, Diocese of Buea, successfully carried out a multi-component intervention campaign in the Idenau community. This timely initiative was aimed at strengthening community resilience against cholera and other waterborne diseases that continue to affect vulnerable populations in the area.
The campaign recorded several key achievements, including a community clean-up exercise around borehole towers and major water points, a hygiene sensitization session, and the distribution of essential hygiene kits to 80 participants. In addition, strategically placed awareness posters were used to reinforce the key messages on proper hygiene practices and water safety.

Despite the overall success of the mission, the team faced a major challenge of low turnout, which may have limited the immediate reach of the campaign. Nevertheless, the intervention was marked by active engagement from those present and a renewed commitment to improving community hygiene standards.
It is worth noting that Caritas Buea, as the social arm of the Catholic Church, remains deeply embedded in community life, working to provide critical support and promote sustainable development through initiatives such as this. The organization continues to stand at the heart of vulnerable communities, bringin
g both hope and practical assistance in the face of public health challenges.
