Thursday April 18th, 2024 Christians convened at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral to launch activities marking the upcoming 75th anniversary of canonical erection of the Diocese of Buea; the mother Diocese in Cameroon. Erected as a Diocese on the 18th of April 1950, faithful started the festivity of the anniversary year with a Eucharistic celebration, one aimed at thanking God for the gift of the Diocese, her works of evangelization and those who have journeyed with the Diocese this far.

Bishop Michael Bibi, fifth residential Bishop of Buea while officiating the launching mass, recalled the successes of Buea Diocese, paying homage to all the past Chief Shepherds , the missionaries, Priests, religious, and Christ lay faithful , who have toiled for the works of evangelization to flourish in the Diocese of Buea.
“Buea Diocese is a seat where Bishops are made” His Lordship Michael Bibi noted as he enumerated the Number of Bishops who hail from the Diocese of Buea. He called on the Christian population to be thankful to God for using the Diocese to touch the lives of many through the works of evangelization.

While the prelate highlighted that the anniversary celebration reminds the Diocese of its brilliance, stability and durability, it is also a period for reconciliation, stock taking and thanksgiving to God for the marvels he has done and will continue to do in the mother diocese in Cameroon.

During the celebration, two projects were announced as projects of the jubilee year: the completion of Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral and the completion of the Bishop Pius Awa memorial pastoral Centre. The Christian population mobilized funds to support the completion of these projects. This support it was noted, remains open to all as the diocese looks forward to celebrating the peak event on April 24, 2025.

Bishop Michael Bibi installed and blessed the members of the steering committee for the 75th anniversary who are commissioned to coordinated activities for a successful anniversary year.
Presentation of anniversary song
The importance of the anniversary celebrations that will run for a period of one year: from April 18th 2024 till April 24th, 2025, attracted a presentation by Mr. Polycarp who unveiled a special song dedicated to the jubilee year.
Religious in attendance
It should be noted that the celebrations marking this millstone shall in the course of the jubilee year, take place at the level of the seven deaneries in the Diocese of Buea under the anniversary theme: “proclaim the Good News, I Am with you Always”.
