Proudly Catholics, strong and resilient in their faith in Christ the King, the Universal Church on November 24, 2024, commemorated the Solemnity of Christ the King, as they paid homage to Christ, showed reverence and reaffirmed their trust in Christ the King.
In a procession characterized by adoration, prayer, praise, and dance, in honor of Christ, truly present in the Blessed sacrament, the Bishop of Buea His Lordship Michael Bibi, priests, and the entire Christian population of the Diocese of Buea processed with the body of Christ to recognize the Kingship of Christ and to remind Christians of the fidelity and loyalty they owe to Christ, who by his Incarnation and sacrificial death on the cross had made them adopted children of God .
Celebrating the Eucharist with Christians of Regina Pacis Cathedral Small Soppo, prelude to the procession with the Blessed Sacrament, the Local Ordinary Bishop Michael Bibi preached on the kingship of Christ, highlighting that His Kingship is eternal and everlasting. Drawing from the Book of Revelation, the prelate said the kingship of Jesus is different from the kingship of this world. It is one of justice, truth, love, good leadership, and forgiveness.
The church reminded faithful on this day that leadership should be one of service to the people in truth and humility , with the sole purpose of promoting the well-being of all. Faithful were invited to live in the spirit of truth, denouncing falsehood, hypocrisy, and pretense. They were called to propagate peace and justice in their families and places of work.
From Regina Pacis Cathedral Small Soppo, St. Martin De Pores Parish Bokwango, St Anthony of Padua Parish Buea Town, Immaculate Conception Parish Great Soppo , Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Sandpit, St Therese of the Child Jesus Mekongi, these Christians from the Buea Deanery , priests, and their Bishop processed and convened at Bongo Square where together they rained praises in adoration of Christ the University King.
The Solemnity of Christ the King was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 and reminds Christians that while governments come and go, Christ reigns as King forever.
It should be noted that the procession with the Blessed Sacrament which is to be observed during the Feast of Corpus Christi, is traditionally carried out on this day in the Ecclesiastical Province of Bamenda, due to favorable climatic conditions.
