
Christians in the Diocese of Buea gathered at the Bishop Pius Awa Pastoral Center to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation “Ecclesia in Africa”. The celebration began with a Eucharistic Celebration led by Bishop Michael Bibi, thanking God for the document’s impact on the African Church.
The Ecclesia in Africa, signed by Pope John Paul II on September 14, 1995, outlines the Church’s vision and plan for evangelization in Africa, emphasizing inculturation, evangelization, and addressing challenges. This document has served as a guiding light for the Church’s pastoral work and evangelization efforts in Africa for three decades, providing rich guidance and direction.
Presentations by Father Eric Afongang, Father Armstrong Ndi, and father Ernest Nebanjoh explored the document’s themes, highlighting the documents background,African Church as a family, evangelization, and the inculturation of the Church. They emphasized the need to incorporate African values that align with Gospel teachings, promoting a vibrant and authentic expression of faith. The presenters also examined the challenges facing evangelization in Africa and proposed strategies for addressing them.
