Pilgrims from the Diocese of Buea on the 6th of May 2024, chanted, “Come Holy Ghost creator, come,” invoking the Holy Spirit to take control of their pilgrimage, the Diocese of Buea and her Christians. The pilgrims committed the 4th day of their spiritual journey in the eternal City of Rome in the hands of God as they boarded a bus to Assisi.
Leading the delegation, the Local Ordinary of Buea Bishop Michael Bibi, prayed for the priests in the Diocese of Buea that God should continue to bless their ministry and inspire them with wisdom as they work in His Vineyard. He entrusted the Religious and Christ Lay Faithful of the Diocese of Buea in God’s hands and prayed that they may use their different gifts and charisms to serve the Lord.
During the Holy Mass celebrated at the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, precisely in the Frate Leone Chapel, Reverend Fr. Patrick Malange in his homily, preached on the importance of spreading love. He urged pilgrims to love one another, stating the words of St. John, who says, “It is the Master who asked us to love”.
After the Mass, pilgrims prayed at the Tomb of St. Francis who is known for his ministry to the poor and underprivileged, his care for nature and animals, and his founding of the Franciscan Order.
The Faith journey also allowed pilgrims to pray at the tomb of blessed Carlos Acutis who died at the age of 15 and was buried in Assisi, at his request, because of his love for St. Francis of Assisi.
Pilgrims also visited the Basilica of Saint Chiara; a church in Assisi dedicated to St. Clare and which contains the remains of Clare of Assisi, a follower of Francis of Assisi.
Closing the day, pilgrims observed the rite of confession at Santa Maria degli Angeli in Porziuncola.
