The 2024 Buea Diocesan Pastoral and Economic Week, has officially ended with the Diocesan Pastoral Council meeting held this 27th day of January 2024 at the Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral center, chaired by His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of Buea and president of the Diocesan pastoral Council.
The closing ceremony started with the celebration of Holy Mass during which delegates from the seven deaneries of the Diocese prayed and thanked God for a successful week, committing the entire pastoral year into the hands of the Lord. The Christians were reminded by the chief celebrant Bishop Michael Bibi of the readiness of God to forgive despite the gravity of the sins committed. He encouraged them not to be afraid but to look up to God in turbulent times for God he says will rescue His people at all times.
The Eucharistic celebration was followed by a period of discussions on the implementation of the provincial pastoral plan at the level of the deaneries. Addressing participants, the chair of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, Mr. Vefonge James Ndumbe, appreciated the efforts made by members in the execution of the pastoral plan. He further challenged the Deans to do more by working harder, making their work felt at the level of all the parishes for a better involvement of Christians and for a improved realization of results.
Fr. Theophile Seka; Franciscan capuchin and Pastoral Director for the Diocese of Buea, in a summary presentation of activities that marked the one week celebration, threw light on the fact that Christians are yet to fully embrace the participation in small Christian communities which is obligatory for all Christians. This he says must be promoted by all deaneries to improve on the realization of the Provincial Pastoral Plan.
He equally stated that during the one week of activities, all priests, religious and Christ layfaithful of the Diocese, condemned the acts by some persons who are trying to sow seeds of discord in the Diocese of Buea. He reaffirmed the support and loyalty of priests, religious and Christ lay faithful to the works of the chief Shepard Michael Bibi as he builds the church of Buea and fosters the works of Evangelization.
In the course of the meeting, participants were updated on the ongoing projects in the Diocese including the production of benches of the Divine Mercy Co-cathedral which currently stands above one hundred benches for the first batch of production. Deliberation on Upcoming events was also another area of focus as the diocese plans for its platinum jubilee come January 24th 2025.
