
On Saturday, March 29, 2025, Christians from the Buea Deanery gathered at Regina Pacis Cathedral in Small Soppo to conclude the Deanery celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Buea. The event came just two days after the passing of Rev. Fr. Happi, a respected priest of the Diocese, who went to his eternal reward on March 27.

During the Pontifical celebration, Bishop Michael Bibi, the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese, called upon the congregation to pray for the peaceful repose of Fr. Happi’s soul. As Bishop Bibi reflected on the significance of the 75-year milestone, he urged Christians to hold steadfast to their faith and surrender their intellect to God. He expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made over the years in sharing the Gospel.

The Bishop also announced the upcoming diocesan Lenten pilgrimage on April 5, emphasizing its importance in strengthening believers’ bonds with God. He prayed that the anniversary celebrations would reinforce the faith of all Christians and encouraged collective efforts in their missionary endeavors.

Bishop Bibi urged the faithful to live virtuous lives, practice forgiveness, and embrace humility as the cornerstone of Christian prayer. He invited everyone to actively participate in the upcoming peak celebration on May 7, 2025, at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral.

The chair of the Buea Deanery Pastoral Council expressed a heartfelt welcome to Bishop Bibi, thanking God for His love and the growth of the Church since its establishment in 1950. The chair also commended the Bishop for his tireless leadership of the Diocese.
The event culminated in vibrant musical and traditional dance performances from various parishes within the Buea Deanery, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and unity of the community.
