Bishops on pilgrimage in the Vatican, today had an encounter with the Holy Father Pope Francis; the Head of the Catholic Church, the Bishop of Rome and Sovereign of the Vatican City State.
One which they described as “fatherly and friendly”, this important meeting with the Holy Father is seen as that which fosters unity and growth in building the Church of God.
Before their audience with the Holy Father, the Bishops celebrated Mass at the Basilica of St Peter; the apostle whom Jesus gave the authority to cater for His Church.
During the celebration of Mass, His Lordship Philippe Alain Mbarga, Bishop of Ebolowa, in his Homily reminded the Bishops of the strength in togetherness. He emphasized the importance of Bishops to work in communion with the Holy Father and with fellow Bishops as they continue the call in shepherding the people of God in their respective Dioceses.
He further exalted the Bishops to emulate the Blessed Virgin Mary by supporting each other in their ministry just as the Blessed Virgin Mary shared in the sorrow of her son.
The mass was presided over by the Archbishop of Bamenda His Excellency Andrew Fuanya Nkea this Friday the 15th of September 2023.
The Bishops during this pilgrimage “to the Threshold of the Apostles”, have celebrated mass in the four major Basilicas; the Basilica of St. John Lateran, St. Peter’s Basilica, Basilica of St. Mary Maggiore and the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls
