Friday, October 27, the Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, Most Rev. Michael Bibi inaugurated a relay transmitter station located at Regina Angelorum Parish, Bonjongo that will hitherto enhance the broadcast of the Divine Mercy Radio Television, DMRTV, of the Diocese of Buea.
The 500 watt relay station with a 24 metre antenna pylon now makes it easy for the signals of DMRTV to be received almost everywhere in Limbe, including Bota and parts of Idenau, where undulating hills often obstruct and attenuate signals, making reception difficult .The 10 million project was financed by the Claretian Missionaries of Cameroon with help from their partners, .
At the unveiling ceremony of the project that has been fully realized, the Bishop of Buea thanked the Superior of the Claretian Missionaries of Cameroon, Rev. Fr. Jude Thaddeus Langeh and his council who graciously came on board to sponsor the project. The new Station Manager of DMRTV, Madam Joyce Mbong attested that with the launch of the relay station, thousands of people in the Limbe area have gained access to high-quality FM broadcasts from DMRTV.
Meanwhile the Superior General of the Claretian Missionaries in Cameroon, the Very Reverend Father Jude Thaddeus Langeh appreciated Bishop Bibi’s vision to evangelize using the means of social communication which is in line with the charism of the Claretians who seek “to spread the Good News by all means possible”. In the course of the ceremony, the Bishop of Buea blessed the new equipment praying that those who use it may communicate truth, foster love, uphold justice and right and provide entertainment, while promoting and supporting that peace between peoples which Christ the Lord brought from heaven. The blessings were crowned with the singing of the famous hymn: “To God be the glory, great things he has done…”
The relay transmitter, according to the former Station Manager of DMRTV, Rev. Dr. Sinfred Senior Msene who supervised the project during its execution, the relay transmitter functions with an automatic switch that comes on at a given time and goes off at a given time. While DMRTV operates on 97.1 Frequency Modulation, FM, in Buea and other parts of the country, it is being relayed on 91.5 FM.
The Claretian Superior in Cameroon revealed that the Claretians in Cameroon had thought of starting a radio station but decided to suspend their plans in order to give the Diocese of Buea a helping hand to boast on the broadcast of DMRTV.
The ceremony to inaugurate the relay transmitter was presided by the Bishop of Buea, Most Rev. Michael Bibi in the presence of the Vicar General of the Diocese of Buea, Fr. Jude Mbi, the Major Superior of the Claretians in Cameroon and his council, priests of Limbe Deanery, some Christians of Limbe deanery and the management of DMRTV.
