The Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral which became a shadow of itself in 2015 is experiencing a new era of realization at the different facets of the project. Christians turned out in their number Today Wednesday 22nd November 2023 to thank God for a hitch free successful finishing of the gigantic roof of this Co-cathedral. This project started in 2009 by the Bishop emeritus of Buea His Lordship Immanuel Bushu, seeks to accommodate the growing population of the church in the Diocese of Buea since the Regina Pacis Cathedral at Small Soppo no longer serves the Diocese appropriately due to the increasing population.
After six years of initiation, the project lost its thirst due to financial constraints and mismanagement of funds causing the Christian population to pay little attention to the realization of the co-cathedral. However, The narrative changed in January 2020 when Bishop Michael Bibi relaunched the project and made it top on the list . Christians satisfied with the transparency, accountability and execution of work as earmarked by Bishop Bibi, rallied behind their bishop with a new motivation to continue the support for the Co-cathedral.
This explains why Today, the Christians do not only thank God for the completion of the roof, but also for the installation of windows, balconies , the placing of external and floor tiles just to mention these. During the Eucharistic celebration to give Glory to God for these accomplishments, the Chief Shepherd Michael Bibi expressed gratitude to all priests, Christians , benefactors the government and people of good will who have journeyed and continue to journey with him for the achievement of this project.
He reassured them of his undying mission and determination to serve in season and out of season, take measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the Diocese of Buea .” I will ensure that no one eats fat from the resources from the daily sacrifices of Christians. We must all be ready to enter the same train and respect the rules. There are and shall be no Untouchables in the Diocese of Buea ,beginning from the Bishop himself ” the prelate noted.
As the Co-cathedral project draws closer to the finish line, the phase to realize 406 comfortable benches for the Co-Cathedral has been launched. During the event, support for the production of over 150 benches was donated by parishes , prayer and action groups , religious communities, individuals, and schools of the Diocese. It is worth noting that the Family of His Lordship Michael Bibi, supported the project with 114 benches.
Each bench it should be noted, costs 125,000frs and according to the Bishop, while trusting on the usual benevolence of Christians and people of good will , this phase is expected to be accomplished within a period of 5months.
The Co-cathedral project is earmarked for completion by 2025 when the Diocese shall be hosting all the Bishops of Cameroon for their annual meeting in February 2025. During this period it is the wish of Bishop Michael Bibi that this Bishop’s seat be dedicated to God by all the Bishops in the Country . The Co-cathedral shall also serve the Diocese During the celebration of it’s 75th anniversary come 2025.
