On Monday, March 24th, Christians gathered at Saint Charles Lwanga Parish in Molyko-Buea for a catechetical session led by Bishop Michael Bibi of the Diocese of Buea. The session focused on the theme of Almsgiving as a key Lenten observance.

Bishop Bibi emphasized that the true intention of Almsgiving is not to seek recognition but to demonstrate authentic generosity. He reminded attendees that Lent is a time for Christians to accompany Christ in His suffering and death, making the practice of Almsgiving particularly significant during this period of reflection on Christ’s sacrifice for humanity.
As one of the three core Lenten practices, Almsgiving is vital for fostering charity and caring for the less privileged. Drawing from Gospel of Matthew 6:1-4, he encouraged Christians to give alms discreetly, highlighting that genuine acts of charity reflect a true devotion to God.

The Bishop also stressed that Almsgiving should extend beyond financial contributions to include acts of service and solidarity with one another. He urged Christians to give without expecting rewards, reinforcing the importance of educating children about the value of Almsgiving.
Concluding his teachings, Bishop Bibi declared that Almsgiving should be a voluntary and heartfelt action.
