Faithfull of Limbe Deanery gathered at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish Livanda Mile 2, this 25th day of March 2024 for another nourishing session of “Know Your Faith” by His Lordship Michael Bibi; Chief catechist of the diocese of Buea. This week’s session of the catechism threw light on the Holy Week as Catholic Christians all over the world remember the suffering and death of Christ and look forward to his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Educating the Christians , Bishop Michael Bibi noted that the Holy week which falls within the Lenten season which began on Ash Wednesday, is focused on the Pascal Mystery which is composed of the death of Christ, His resurrection and His ascension into Heaven. The Holy Week he explained, begins on Palm Sunday in remembrance of Jesus Christ as the king of the universe and whose kingship he said is not meant to put man into suffering but rather to bring joy to mankind.
After the celebration of Palm Sunday comes the chrism mass which is meant to pray for the union between the priests and their Bishop, renew the priestly vows and to bless 2 oils: the oil for the catechumen used to administer the sacrament of baptism, the oil of the sick which is used for the anointing of the sick. Still at the chrism mass, the oil of chrism is being consecrated and this oil is used in administering the sacrament of confirmation and for ordination.
The Lenten season he said, ends on the morning of Holy Thursday and the Easter Triduum commences on the evening of Holy Thursday and ends with vespers on Easter Sunday. It was highlighted that Holy Thursday reminds Christians of the humility of Christ who accepted to die to save mankind, the institution of the sacrament of holy communion, the institution of the priesthood as well as the humility Christ exhibited by washing the feet of his disciples.
On the other hand, Good Friday reminds us of the death of Christ , Holy Saturday commemorates the eve of Jesus’s resurrection and on Easter Sunday, the church celebrates the resurrection of Christ from the death.
These Christians, nourished by the teachings of the church, posed different questions to Bishop Michael Bibi to better understand and improve on their spiritual life.
They further wished His Lordship a happy 7th anniversary of episcopal ordination noting that they were privileged to have him amongst them on this special day. Bishop Michael Bibi was ordained as bishop on the 25th of March 2017 in Bamenda.
