Ahead of the 75th-anniversary of Buea Diocese slated for April 24th, 2025 , the Local Ordinary Bishop Michael Bibi continues to mobilize funds for the completion of the two anniversary projects; Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral and Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Centre. On Sunday August 11th, 2024, the Bishop joined the community of Christians at Saints Peter and Paul Anglophone Parish Simbock, Yaounde for a Fundraising Mass to support the finishing of these giant projects which shall be used extensively during and after the upcoming 75th anniversary celebration of the Diocese.
On behalf of the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Yaounde, Mgr. Jean Mbarga, Rev. Fr. Aloysius Ndifor received the prelate as the Eucharistic celebration commenced.
In the course of the Eucharistic celebration, Bishop Michael Bibi reminded Christians of the generosity and prominence of God to satisfy the needs of His Children and called on them to always understand the identity of Jesus, who has a divine nature and a human nature. He told them that Jesus must be understood as God and Man as the teachings of the church put it clearly.
The Prelate further urged Christians to support each other and to forgive each other as models of Christ. He commissioned them to spread the virtue of love.
In the spirit of fraternity and the love for evangelization, the Christians of Simbock, together with other sister Anglophone communities in Yaounde, turned out massively and raised over 15 million Francs, to support the 75th-anniversary projects.
The Parish Pastoral Council chairlady, while welcoming the Local Ordinary on behalf of the parish community, commended the prelate for his efforts in building the Diocese and for the achievements recorded this far. The prelate on his part, expressed gratitude for the generosity and warmness shown by the Anglophone catholic community towards the diocese of Buea.
Erected in 1950 as the first Diocese in Cameroon, the Diocese of Buea celebrates its 75th anniversary under the theme “Proclaim the Good News, I Am With You Always”.
