In a momentous occasion, His Excellency Michael Bibi, the Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, conducted a site visit to the awe-inspiring Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral on November 20, 2023, alongside his trusted collaborators. This visit precedes the eagerly anticipated thanksgiving mass scheduled for Wednesday, November 22, 2023, commemorating the completion of the roofing phase of the over 2 billion Franc CFA structure.
During the visit, Bishop Bibi engaged with on-site engineers, obtaining firsthand updates on the remarkable progress of the construction. His keen supervision extended to overseeing the installation of windows, concrete work, and inspecting sample benches intended for use in the cathedral. The Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral project, a focal point for Bishop Bibi since his appointment in 2021, has undergone significant advancements and is slated for completion no later than 2025, coinciding with the Diocese’s 25th-anniversary celebration.
The recently accomplished roofing phase, a monumental achievement costing over 400 million Francs CFA, marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing project. In recognition of this achievement, the diocese has organized a thanksgiving mass, also serving as an opportunity to fundraise for benches needed for the co-cathedral, which has undergone transformative changes in recent months.
Following the co-cathedral visit, Bishop Bibi and his team made a brief stop at the Bishop Pius Awah Pastoral Center, located a few meters from the co-cathedral. Here, they received comprehensive updates on the progress of the second structure dedicated to housing the pastoral center.
The first structure, recently completed, boasts 36 fully furnished rooms equipped with beds, TVs, and air conditioning. With administrators appointed, the center is now ready for public use.
Satisfaction radiated from Bishop Bibi as he left the project sites, affirming the dedication and progress witnessed in the transformative journey of the projects within a very short period of time
