Ecstasy characterized the atmosphere as priests, consecrated men and women and the lay faithful of the Diocese of Buea join in communion with their Chief Shepherd; Michael Bibi to give thanks to God for the pastoral life of the Diocese and for the many achievements recorded in the year 2023.
Celebrating a Thanksgiving mass at the Regina Pacis Cathedral in Small soppo this 27th day of December 2023, the local ordinary of the Diocese; Bishop Michael Bibi, enjoined the priests, religious and faithful, to live in union and communion with one another as they embrace the new year 2024.
The prelate expressed gratitude to all the priests and Christians for their unwavering sacrifices in fostering the growth of the pastoral life of the church throughout the year 2023 while calling on them to exercise love amongst them during the year 2024.
Bishop Michael Bibi used this moment to speak as a father to His priests, reminding them that priests are indispensable helpers of the Bishop and must be attached to their Bishop in charity and obedience while living in union and communion at all times. Priests he further noted, must be regarded by their Bishop as his sons and friends and the Bishop has the responsibility of listening to the priests and providing a convivial atmosphere for all. In this light he called on priests to obey their Bishop and to be devoted in their service to the church and her Christians. He also called on the Christian population to pray for their priests as they continue serving the people of God.
To the consecrated men and women of the Diocese of Buea, the local ordinary praised them for using their gifts and talents for the growth of the Diocese. He challenged them to take things of the diocese as theirs and never to seat on the fence for this he says does not promote the wellbeing of the church.
The prelate advanced words of congratulations to the tertiary sisters of St. Francis for making the Diocese of Buea their home and for serving the church with their different talents.
The thanksgiving celebration provided an opportunity for the diocesan pastoral council chairperson Mr. Vefonge James, to extend on behalf of the Christian community, words of appreciation to Bishop Michael Bibi, for the new face lift brought to the diocese of Buea in just few years.
The 2023 annual thanksgiving celebration entered phase two after the celebration of Holy mass; during which priests of the Diocese thrilled the event with their voices, singing songs of praise and gratitude to God for the many blessings received in the year 2023.
They equally danced in style alongside their Bishop and Christians in a spirit of communion with one another.
The event was also thrilled by traditional displays, youth’s presentations and drama by the mothers of the Catholic Women Association CWA.
