The Bishop of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Catholic Women’s Association (CWA) of the Buea Diocese for the successful hosting of the CWA’s Diamond Jubilee and National Congress, held in Buea in July 2024. Bishop Bibi made these remarks on September 22nd, 2024, during a Thanksgiving Mass at St. John of God Parish, Bonadikombo, which marked the official closing of the elective general assembly of the CWA in the Diocese of Buea.
In his opening remarks, the prelate commended their hard work and dedication, encouraging them to continue shining brightly in their activities and service to the church.
During his homily in a full packed church with close to 1000 Christians, the Bishop began by expressing deep appreciation to the outgoing executive team for their collaborative efforts, fostering dialogue, and strengthening unity during their tenure. He emphasized the importance of such collaboration for the effective functioning of the church, stating that it serves as a vital foundation for the CWA’s future progress.
“I sincerely thank the former executives for their dedication and service, and I warmly welcome the new leadership team, headed by Madame Enobi as President,” the Bishop said, offering his support to the new team.
He urged the newly elected Diocesan President of the CWA and her team to continue the legacy of cooperation established by their predecessors.
Bishop Bibi reminded those present that their service is for the greater good of the church, not for individual recognition or the benefit of their leaders. “You are not working for the Bishop or your President but for the interest of the church,” he affirmed, encouraging them to remain focused on their spiritual mission.
In a reassuring tone, the Bishop offered his full support to the new executive team, saying, “I am available. I will work with you, and I will support you.”
Drawing inspiration from the Book of Wisdom, Bishop Bibi urged the faithful to remain steadfast in their commitment to doing what is right, regardless of the challenges, criticism, or attacks they may face.
He further referenced the Book of James, speaking on the harm caused by internal conflicts and vices like jealousy, gossip, and hatred among Christians. He cautioned that a jealous heart can never appreciate God’s blessings and will always harbor bitterness toward others.
The Bishop reminded the Christians that every Christian is uniquely blessed with gifts meant to glorify God and encouraged them to take their worries and concerns to God in prayer. Reflecting on the disciples’ argument over who would succeed Jesus, Bishop Bibi urged the new CWA leadership to embrace the role of servant leaders. He called for dialogue, an open-door policy, and a commitment to fostering discipline and peace within the organization.
In his closing remarks, Bishop Bibi reminded the CWA members that all authority comes from God and encouraged them to respect their elected leaders. He also advised the elders to be closer to the people, saying, “You must always be prudent and sensitive to effectively manage the people.”
The Parish pastoral chairperson on his part thanked the Bishop for the numerous projects in the Diocese and assured him of his parish readiness to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Diocese at the Limbe deanery level.
A ceremonial handing over of power between the outgoing and incoming CWA executives, and the Bishop bestowed his blessings upon the new team, who will lead the mothers of the church for the next three years.
