The Bishop of Buea and proprietor of St. Joseph’s College Sasse on Sunday the 13th of October 2024, fulfilled his annual rendezvous with students, administrators and staff of this prestigious institution as he joined them for the Inaugural Mass for the 2024/2025 school year. This yearly tradition is meant to thank God for the blessings, guidance and protection received over the past academic year and to pray for His blessings throughout the new school year.

The Inaugural Mass coincided with the 2024 SOBA America Day; one set aside by the ex-students of Sasse in the United States to visit their alma mater with the objective of encouraging students and staff of this institution to work hard and to recognize intellectual and moral excellence of the students and deserving staff.

During the Eucharistic celebration, Bishop Michael Bibi cautioned students of Sasse to focus on the mission to acquire intellectual, moral, spiritual and pastoral formation. He also called on them to guard against lies telling, theft, homosexuality and other ills that are unacceptable in catholic institutions. The proprietor further urged senior students to shun the act of brutality and to love and cherish younger students as their brothers.

Speaking to the staff of Sasse, Bishop Bibi lauded them for their commitment in providing holistic education to the students and at the same time told that that they must not allow parents to influence their actions towards these students entrusted to them. He urged them to keep the confidentiality of the school and to operate according to the guiding principles of the institution.
To the parents , the Bishop while acknowledging the role they play in the education of their children, called on them to stop interfering in the works of teachers, and to allow the teachers do their job.
The Chief Shepherd used this event to salute the sacrifices and contributions of SOBA America and the SOBANS in general, accorded to him over the past five years to carry out the responsibility of making Sasse great again. He thanked them for the scholarships they offer each year and prayed that God should bless them abundantly as they continue to give back to their alma mater.

SOBA America during this homecoming, offered scholarships to some deserving students of the intuition including financial assistance award, best crammer award, award to the best behaved student, freshman award, top student award among others.

They also handed to Sasse College, 9 laptops and some projectors to encourage effective teaching and learning in this school.
The event came at the eve of the 85th anniversary of Sasse which shall be celebrated in the month of December 2024, within the framework of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Buea.
