
Buea, May 8, 2025 – One day after presiding over the grand celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Buea, the Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, Archbishop José Avelino Bettencourt, paid a pastoral visit to the Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB), its Entrepreneurial High School, and the CUIB Academy of Talents.
The Vatican envoy was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Archbishop of Bamenda, His Grace Andrew Nkea; the Bishop of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi; the Bishop of Kumbo, His Lordship George Nkuo; and the Bishop of Kumba, His Lordship Agapitus Nfon.

The visit offered the Nuncio a unique opportunity to interact with the pupils, students, faculty, and administrative staff of these institutions, which are all part of the Diocese of Buea’s ongoing commitment to entrepreneurial education, innovation, and holistic human development.
The Nuncio and his entourage were warmly welcomed with songs, brief speeches, and presentations by students and administrators. The atmosphere was one of joy, gratitude, and pride as the students showcased their talents and expressed their appreciation for the rare visit.

In his welcome address, Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Anyanwu, President of CUIB, thanked the Apostolic Nuncio for taking the time to visit. He went on to outline the mission and vision of CUIB, emphasizing its dedication to forming servant-leaders who are both “Saints and Scholars”, capable of transforming society through entrepreneurial excellence rooted in Christian values.

In response, Archbishop Bettencourt expressed deep satisfaction with what he witnessed. “This visit has given me the opportunity to meet the Saints and Scholars who are shaping the future of this noble nation, Cameroon,” the Nuncio said. He praised the leadership of the Diocese of Buea and the commitment of its institutions to quality education and moral formation.
