
YAOUNDE, February 25, 2026 , In a gesture of solidarity and fraternal encouragement, His Grace Archbishop José Avelino Bettencourt, Apostolic Nuncio to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, paid a courtesy visit to the delegates of the 9th National Council of Catholic Communicators currently assembled at the NECC headquarters.

The Apostolic Nuncio was warmly received by His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of Buea and President of the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications. In his welcoming remarks, Bishop Bibi highlighted the significance of the Nuncio’s presence as a source of inspiration for those tasked with telling the Church’s story.
In a compelling address to the participants, Archbishop Bettencourt urged Catholic communicators to broaden their horizons. He emphasized that communication must move beyond the parochial walls of individual Dioceses to resonate with and touch the wider global Church community. He reminded delegates that they are the architects of a “Universal Church” narrative.

Addressing the Council’s focus on modern technology, the Nuncio issued a clarion call for innovation and creativity. He urged delegates to fearlessly use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and social media platforms as instruments of the Gospel. He challenged communicators to move away from routine reporting and adopt creative, engaging storytelling techniques that capture the imagination of the faithful. Most importantly, he reminded participants that their primary duty is to project a true and authentic image of the Church; one that is transparent, holy, and deeply human.
