FATHER MARTIN DRILLS CHRISTIANS ON THE JUSTICE AND PEACE COMMISSION.

Date: September 22, 2025

“The Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Church in the Bamenda ecclesiastical Province is a body within the Church tasked with promoting social justice, peace, and the protection of human rights in accordance with the teachings of the Gospel, Catholic Social Doctrine and laws of the state”. This teaching was highlighted on Monday, September 22nd, 2025, by Fr. Martin Njie, Cathedral Administrator of Regina Pacis Cathedral, during a catechetical session at the Regina Pacis Cathedral in Small Soppo. The session centered on the Justice and Peace Commission, one of the 19 commissions of the Bamenda Provincial Pastoral Plan

In the Diocese of Buea, the presence of the Justice and Peace Commission is felt in prisons, where it works to support inmates in their pursuit of justice and human dignity. Beyond the prison walls, the commission plays a vital role within local communities, actively engaging in conflict resolution efforts and promoting peaceful settlements to disputes, in line with the Church’s call to be a source of hope, justice, and reconciliation.

It should be noted that the Justice and Peace Commission is composed of a diverse group of individuals, including priests, religious, and lay Christians who are knowledgeable in matters of law and justice. It also involves action groups and institutions within the Church that are committed to promoting justice, peace, and human rights. Together, they work to ensure that the Church remains a voice for the voiceless and a defender of social equity in all aspects of life.

In all, the Justice and Peace Commission serves as a vital arm of the Church’s mission, reminding Christians of their moral duty to uphold justice, promote peace, and be agents of reconciliation in society.
