BISHOP MICHAEL BIBI DRILLS CHRISTIANS ON THE YOUTH APOSTOLATE COMMISSION.

Date: October 6, 2025

As the Christian community continues to grow, it is essential to guide and empower the younger generation to take up responsibility in the life of the Church. This important message was emphasized by His Lordship Bishop Michael Bibi, Bishop of Buea, during the Monday catechetical session held on October 6th, 2025, at Regina Pacis Cathedral, Small Soppo. The catechetical session focused on the youth apostolate commission, which plays a central role in nurturing and empowering young people within the church.

The Youth Apostolate Commission is a fruit of Ecclesia in Africa, highlighting the Church’s commitment to the integral formation of young people. Rooted in Christ’s words, “Let the little children come to me” (Matthew 19:14), this commission validates the essential role of youth in the life and mission of the Church. It affirms that the young are not just the future but also active participants in the present work of evangelization and service to Christ.

CHOIR ANIMATING THE CATECHISM

The Youth Apostolate Commission plays an important role in promoting the integral Christian formation of young people. Its responsibilities include organizing seminars and workshops to train and empower youths, encouraging their active participation in Catholic activities, and guiding them in identifying and avoiding values that contradict the Christian faith.

Within the Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province, several youth groups operate under this commission, including the Young Christian Students (YCS), Young Christian Workers (YCW), Altar Servers, Cadets of Mary, and Youth Choirs — each fostering spiritual growth, leadership, and service among Catholic youths.

CWA MOTHERS ATTENDING THE CATECHESIS

The membership of the Youth Apostolate Commission is composed of catechists, priests, young people, and individuals passionate about the spiritual and moral growth of the youth. These members may be either elected or appointed, and are to have a strong commitment, experience, and willingness to serve the Church’s mission of nurturing the next generation.

The young people are not just the future of the Church they are its present. Investing in their formation today ensures a stronger, more faithful Church tomorrow.
