Bishop Bibi leads catechesis on the person and gifts of the Holy Spirits

Date: May 19, 2026

On Monday 18th May 2026, the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Buea His Lordship Bishop Michael Bibi led a catechetical session at the Saint Charles Lwanga Parish,Molyko. The catechetical session addressed the theme: “The Person of the Holy Spirit and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.” The catechesis provided the faithful with a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit as the Third Person of the Holy Trinity, the gifts conferred by the Spirit, and the biblical interpretation of speaking in tongues. It also examined the role of the Holy Spirit in advancing the Church’s divine mission and in the sanctification of believers, in fulfillment of Christ’s promise to send the helper.

The prelate reflected on the significance of Pentecost and reminded the faithful that the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles is the direct fulfillment of Christ’s promise to send a Helper and a Sanctifier. He stressed that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are three persons in one God working together in perfect unity for the salvation of humanity.

The chief shepherd further noted that, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit brings with it both gifts and graces for the faithful. These include wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. Through these gifts, believers are strengthened in faith, guided in truth, and enabled to know God more intimately while growing into better disciples of Christ.

Drawing from CCC 691, the chief shepherd also spoke about the symbols associated with the Holy Spirit, such as the dove, water, fire, light, wind, and clouds. He noted that the Holy Spirit is likewise known by titles including the Advocate, the Helper, the Spirit of Truth, and the Sanctifier. These symbols and titles, he said, are not merely images but reveal the Spirit’s nature and mission, helping us to better understand and relate to His presence and action in the Church and in our personal lives.
