Mourners bid Farewell to Shinyuy Mariline as She begins final Journey
In deep sorrow and Christian hope, mourners, clergy, family members and friends of the late Shinyuy Mariline gathered at Regina Pacis Cathedral, Small Soppo, Buea, to celebrate her funeral rites and commend her soul to the mercy of God. The Requiem Mass was presided over by the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Buea, His Lordship Bishop Michael Bibi, following the reception and viewing of the mortal remains of the deceased.

The funeral celebration offered the bereaved family, clergy and mourners an opportunity to pray for the peaceful repose of Mariline’s soul and to pay their final respects to a daughter, sister, colleague and friend. In the hope of the resurrection, the gathering also provided comfort through the Christian promise of eternal life and the belief that death does not mark the end of life in Christ.

In his homily during the funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Bishop Bibi reminded the faithful that death does not have the final say over life, as Christians believe in the resurrection through Christ. He noted that death respects neither age, social class, wealth nor position and can come without warning. He therefore challenged the faithful to remain spiritually prepared at all times and to live lives worthy of the resurrection, with heaven as their ultimate destination.
The Bishop further urged mourners to use Mariline’s passing as an opportunity for personal reflection, reconciliation and spiritual renewal. He called on them to make peace with one another, put their lives in order and continually ask themselves: “If God calls me today, in what state will I be?” Reflecting on the life of the deceased, particularly her service as an intensive care nurse, Bishop Bibi noted that values such as service, righteousness, kindness and respect continue to live on through the people whose lives have been touched by them.
Drawing inspiration from Romans 14:8, “Whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord,” Bishop Bibi stressed that faith in God gives Christians genuine hope in the resurrection. He encouraged the faithful to trust in God when human understanding reaches its limits, surrender their burdens to Him and remain steadfast in faith. He urged them to live each day conscious of their ultimate calling to eternal life and to leave behind a positive and lasting legacy.
The funeral rites concluded with the solemn procession of the mortal remains of the late Shinyuy Mariline to the cemetery at Regina Pacis Cathedral, Small Soppo, Buea, where she was laid to rest. In an atmosphere of sorrow and Christian hope, family, clergy, friends and mourners entrusted her to God’s mercy, holding firmly to the promise of the resurrection and eternal life.
