Rev. Fr. Martin Njie Calls for the Restoration of Christian Virtues in Families
At a time when the core values and virtues that uphold society appear increasingly fragile, Rev. Fr. Martin Njie Moka has called for a renewed commitment to Christian values within families. He made the call on Monday, 21 September 2026, while leading a catechetical session at Saint Martin de Porres Parish, Bokwango, on the theme, “Are Families of Today Still Rooted in the Virtues That Make Up a Christian Family?”

In his catechesis, Rev. Fr. Njie examined the nature of contemporary families in relation to Christian virtues and God’s original purpose for the family. He highlighted the Holy Family of Nazareth as a model for Christian families, emphasizing virtues such as faith, love, obedience, unity, responsibility, and holiness.
Rev. Fr. Njie stressed that society cannot function effectively when families are broken and Christian virtues are not properly instilled in children. He noted that the building of better communities must begin within the family, which he said should be founded on strong moral principles and Christian values. He also expressed concern over challenges including physical distance, family separation, domestic violence, marital instability, and the influence of social media on family life.
While acknowledging that no family is perfect and that challenges are inevitable, the priest called on family members to embrace sincere reconciliation, forgiveness, and genuine love as essential steps toward rebuilding trust and restoring the virtues that strengthen family life. He encouraged individuals and families to rediscover the values that reflect God’s purpose for the family and contribute to the moral and spiritual renewal of society.

The catechesis further highlighted the responsibility of parents and guardians to nurture children in the Christian faith through regular instruction, participation in Mass, and family prayer. Rev. Fr. Njie challenged parents to become authentic witnesses of the virtues they teach, stressing that children learn not only through words and instruction but also through the example set by those who raise them.
