THE BLOOD OF MARTYRS IS THE SEED OF CHRISTIANITY
At a time when the Church and the faithful continue to face persecution, Rev. Fr. Martin Njie Moka today, August 24, 2026, led a catechetical session at St. Martin de Porres Parish, Bokwango, on the theme “Christian Martyrdom.” The catechesis took place as the Church celebrated the Feast of St. Bartholomew, Apostle and Martyr.

Reflecting on Christian martyrdom, Fr. Martin Njie described it as the willingness to remain faithful to Christ even in the face of death, rather than renouncing the faith one professes. He emphasized the importance of remaining steadfast in the truth and embracing the mystery of the Cross, noting that there is no crossless Christianity. He urged the faithful to resist temptation and pressure and never surrender to evil.

Fr. Martin explained that the blood of the early Christian martyrs became the seed of Christianity. Their courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to Christ helped establish and strengthen the Christian faith. He therefore challenged Christians today to remain firm in their faith and to draw inspiration from the courage and witness of the early martyrs.
He further noted that martyrdom can take different forms, including shedding one’s blood for the faith, enduring persecution or false imprisonment because of Christian convictions, standing against corruption and oppressive systems, and refusing to participate in fraud and immorality. He called on the faithful to always choose what is right, even when others choose otherwise, and to remain faithful to Christ in every circumstance.
