BAPEC 80th Ordinary Meeting Begins in Bamenda with Focus on Education
The 80th Ordinary Meeting of the Bamenda Provincial Episcopal Conference (BAPEC) has officially begun in Bamenda, bringing together the Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province alongside key officials from the Archdiocese of Bamenda, the Diocese of Buea, Kumbo, Mamfe and Kumba.

His Grace Andrew Nkea, Arch Bishop of the Bamenda Ecclesiatical Province.
The meeting opened today, Monday, 17 August 2026, with the celebration of Holy Mass, setting a spiritual tone for a week of reflection, evaluation and planning for the Catholic Church in the Ecclesiastical Province.
The first major engagement of the week was the Provincial Council of Education, bringing together all the Bishops of the Ecclesiastical Province, as well as the Education and Financial Secretaries from the Bamenda Ecclesiastical Province .

During the Education Council meeting, the Education and Financial Secretaries presented reports from their respective dioceses. The reports provided an opportunity to review developments, achievements and challenges within the educational apostolate of the different dioceses. The presentations were followed by discussions among the Bishops and officials, with particular attention given to issues requiring collective reflection and possible action at the provincial level.

As BAPEC continues this week, attention will turn to other important areas of ecclesiastical and pastoral life. The programme includes meetings of the Boards of Governors of the Minor and Propaedeutic Seminaries and the Major Seminaries, as well as a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic University of Cameroon (CATUC).
The 80th Ordinary Meeting of BAPEC will formally continue with reports and discussions from the various Provincial Episcopal Commissions, including those responsible for Education, Apostolic Workers, Catechetical and Pastoral Affairs, Social Affairs, the Ecclesiastical Tribunal, Family and Youth Apostolates, and Health.
The week-long gathering is expected to provide a platform for the Bishops and representatives of the dioceses to assess the life and mission of the Church in the province, strengthen collaboration and chart common pastoral directions for the future.
