Bishop Bibi Leads Catechesis on the Significance of the Transfiguration at St. Charles Lwanga, Molyko
From the heights of Mount Tabor, where Christ’s divine glory was revealed, the Church continues to draw strength, hope, and a deeper understanding of God’s saving plan. In that same spirit, His Lordship Bishop Michael Bibi, Chief Shepherd of the Diocese of Buea, led a catechetical session on Monday, 27th July 2026 at St. Charles Lwanga Parish, Molyko on the theme, “The Significance of the Transfiguration,” as the faithful prepare for the Church’s annual celebration of the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord on 6th August.

Anchoring his teaching in Matthew 17:1–8, the Bishop explained the link between the Transfiguration and the revelation of Christ’s divine identity and glory. He enlightened the faithful on the various ways through which people come to know God. The Prelate emphasized that the event offers a foretaste of the heavenly glory awaiting the righteous, and it serves as a powerful assurance of life after death. It also confirms Peter’s profession of faith in Christ as the Son of God.

Bishop Bibi further highlighted that the Transfiguration provides a key scriptural foundation for the central mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. On the mountain, the divine presence was fully revealed: the voice of the Father speaking, the radiant person of the Son transfigured, and the overshadowing luminous cloud of the Holy Spirit. This manifestation, he said, gives believers a glimpse of the glory prepared for those who remain faithful to Christ.
Turning to the realities of daily life, the Chief Shepherd reminded the faithful that suffering and persecution are part of the Christian journey. He challenged them not to seek easy shortcuts, but to face trials courageously in Christ and remain steadfast. “The radiant manifestation of Christ reminds us,” he said, “that our earthly existence is not our final destination, but a pilgrimage toward a far better home in heaven.”
