In a landmark moment for Cameroonian higher education, the Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) has officially inaugurated Dr. Felicitas Atabong Mokom as its new President. Her installation on Thursday, July 23, marks a major milestone in the university’s history, as she becomes the first woman to hold the executive office since the institution was established. She takes over leadership from Rev. Fr. Dr. Bartholomew Anyanwu, who spearheaded the university’s recent academic and structural initiatives.
The official transfer of administrative authority took place during a solemn ceremony officiated by the Vicar General of the Diocese of Buea, acting on behalf of the Chancellor. The event served as the practical implementation of diocesan appointments and institutional realignments decreed by the Chancellor in June 2026. Entrusted with the institution’s highest administrative mantle, Dr. Mokom now bears the responsibility of upholding CUIB’s signature mission: educating “Saints and Scholars” through an educational model that harmonizes moral integrity and spiritual formation with rigorous academic discipline.

Dr. Mokom steps into the presidency with an extensive background in academia, technology, and executive management. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Windsor in Canada, alongside degrees from Wayne State University and the University of Texas at Austin, bringing a rich blend of international industry experience and academic governance to the post. Having served CUIB in key executive capacities over the years,including as Dean of the School of Information Technology and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Research, and Cooperation she brings deep institutional memory and strategic continuity to her new role.
Looking ahead, Dr. Mokom will oversee academic programs, faculty development, and campus operations across both the main campus in Buea and the campus in Douala. Her leadership comes at a key phase in CUIB’s expansion as it continues to train ethical leaders, technical innovators, and job creators. Her historic appointment stands out as a notable advancement for female leadership within Catholic institutional governance and higher education throughout the region.
