Healing Minds, Restoring Hope Through Play: CARITAS Buea Brings Smiles to Vulnerable Children

Smiles, laughter and renewed hope filled the CARITAS Buea office in Molyko on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, as the organisation hosted a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) recreational activity for children affected by the ongoing socio-political crisis in Cameroon.

The activity, carried out under the project “Community Psychosocial Support for Orphans and Vulnerable Children affected by the socio-political crisis in Cameroon,” brought together children in a safe and caring environment where healing was fostered through play. Using simple but engaging games, the children were encouraged to interact freely, express themselves and momentarily escape the stress, fear and trauma associated with conflict and displacement.

Beyond entertainment, the recreational games served as a therapeutic tool, reinforcing the importance of play as a pathway to emotional recovery, resilience and mental well-being. For many of the children, the session provided a rare opportunity to simply be children again — to laugh, connect and rediscover joy.

CARITAS Buea expressed profound gratitude to Holy Childhood for its unwavering support, which made the initiative possible. Special appreciation was also extended to His Lordship, Bishop Michael Bibi, for his fatherly guidance and steadfast commitment to the protection and holistic well-being of vulnerable children within the Diocese of Buea.
The organisation further acknowledged the visionary leadership of Mr. Pierre Ernest Tchinda, Director of CARITAS Buea, whose dedication to service and compassion for the most vulnerable continue to inspire impactful interventions across the diocese. Sincere thanks were also addressed to the entire CARITAS staff, whose teamwork, professionalism and tireless efforts ensured the success of the programme.
Through initiatives such as this, CARITAS Buea continues to restore dignity, strengthen resilience and build brighter futures for children affected by crisis.
