Leaders from various Diocesan commissions, service heads, presidents and secretaries of prayer and action groups, as well as members of deanery and parish councils, convened at the Aunty Kate Banquet Hall, Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Center, to deliberate on the way forward regarding the Provincial Pastoral Plan.
The gathering took place within the framework of the 16th Diocesan Pastoral and Economic Week, which runs from January 27th to January 31st, 2025. Participants received insights on the Diocese of Buea’s pastoral strategy and other church-related matters. A key resolution was the need to prioritize the animation, reanimation, formation, and reactivation of Small Christian Communities and Commissions to complement existing Diocesan structures.
Br. Singfred Sinior, in his keynote address, emphasized the theme “Living the Year of Jubilee 2025 as a Synodal Church in Light of the Bamenda Provincial Pastoral Plan.” He reminded attendees of the multiple jubilees being celebrated within the Diocese of Buea and the importance of unity in faith.
A unanimous resolution reaffirmed unwavering support for Bishop Michael Bibi in his role as the chief shepherd of the diocese. “We strongly condemn any destabilizing activities and reiterate that the Diocese of Buea remains steadfast. We stand in solidarity with Bishop Michael Bibi as he leads the flock of God and commits to the work of evangelization,” the final communiqué declared.
In preparation for the 75th Anniversary of the Diocese, members also resolved to revive the tradition of First Fridays as parochial days of reparation and recollection. Parish Pastoral Councils and consecrated persons are tasked with ensuring the success of this monthly spiritual exercise, reinforcing the diocese’s commitment to renewal and growth.
