Buea, January 4, 2025 – The Bishop Pius Awah Memorial Centre in the Diocese of Buea has been transformed into a radiant hub of hope and enthusiasm as it welcomes the Bishops of Cameroon for their annual seminar. The streets leading to the venue were alive with vibrant colors of Vatican and Cameroon flags, accompanied by traditional dance groups, a special contingent of the Catholic Women Association, and hundreds of Christians eager to greet their spiritual leaders.
His Lordship Michael Bibi, Bishop of Buea, stood at the forefront of the welcoming party, warmly embracing his counterparts as they arrived throughout the day. The visiting bishops, visibly moved by the hospitality and jubilant atmosphere, expressed their gratitude for the warm reception.
After their arrival, the bishops were escorted to their lodging quarters at the Bishop Pius Awah Memorial Pastoral Centre, where they began exchanging pleasantries with one another in preparation for the seminar. Outside, the celebratory mood continued unabated, with dance groups performing to the delight of the crowd. Diocesan broadcaster DMRTV provided live coverage of the event, capturing the joy and unity that marked this historic occasion.
This visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Buea, the oldest diocese in Cameroon. It is a time of reflection, celebration, and renewed commitment to the Church’s mission. The week-long seminar offers a platform for the bishops to discuss key issues affecting the Church and the faithful across Cameroon.
The highlight of the bishops’ visit will be the dedication of the newly constructed Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral on Sunday, January 5th, 2025. This milestone event will be presided over by His Lordship Michael Bibi, with all visiting bishops in attendance. The dedication marks a significant step in the spiritual and infrastructural growth of the diocese.
The Diocese of Buea continues to shine as a beacon of faith, unity, and progress, celebrating its legacy while looking forward to a future filled with hope and devotion.
