Plans are being finalized to welcome Bishops of Cameroon for their 48th annual Assembly in the Diocese of Buea which will run from the 4th to the 11th of January 2025.
After a final steering committee meeting held on Wednesday December 18, under the chairmanship of the Local Ordinary Michael Bibi, to ascertain the level of preparations by different committees put in place to pilot the success of this momentous event, executive members of the Diocesan Pastoral Council convened on Thursday December 19, in the congress hall of the Bishop Pus Awa memorial Pastoral Centre to map out concrete measures for active participation of Christians as the Bishops enter Buea, the oldest Diocese in Cameroon.
Coordinated by Mr. James Vefonge, Diocesan Pastoral Council Chair, a major highlight of this gathering was the mobilization of Christians to grace the events of the 5th of January which will witness the opening Mass of the seminar and the dedication of the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral, the opening ceremony on Tuesday the 7th of January and the closing event on the 11th of January 2025.
On behalf of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, Mr. Vefonge assured His Lordship Michael Bibi of the active involvement of the Christians at these grand events.
The Local Ordinary in response, rendered appreciation to these members for their dedication and numerous sacrifices they put in at the level of their parishes and the diocese for the realization of the proclamation of the Gospel.
Key measures that have been put in place to see into it that Christians come together as one family to welcome the bishops and take part in the dedication of the Co-cathedral include the fact that parishes have been called to celebrate masses for the sick and the elderly on Saturday the eve of the opening mass or to do so as early as 6. a m on Sunday the 5th of January 2025, while the grand event begins at 10. a m in the Divine Mercy Co-cathedral on Sunday January 5th.
The coming of the bishops for their annual conference falls within events marking the 75th anniversary celebration of the Diocese of Buea.
