The Chief Custodian of the Diocese of Buea His Lordship Michael Bibi, joined faithful of Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral to commemorate the 98th edition of World Mission Sunday under the theme “Go and invite everyone to the Banquet”. During The Eucharistic celebration which took place on Sunday the 20th of October 2024 aimed at recognizing the works of missionaries worldwide, Bishop Bibi reminded Christians of the Holy Father’s call for all to be missionaries and in doing so, he urged them to spread the Gospel by words and actions.
The celebration of this year’s World Mission Sunday took place within the framework of the annual pastoral visit of the Local Ordinary to this Christian community. The two days pastoral visit which ran from Saturday October 19th to Sunday October 20th, was an opportunity for the Bishop to strengthen the bond with his Christians, understand their needs, discuss ways of improving the work of evangelization and also to pray with his flock. Communing with the Christians, the prelate reminded them of the importance of communion, participation and mission, in exercising the work of spreading the Good News. He urged them to work as a team, sharing ideas that will improve the entire parish community.
The Chief Shepherd expressed gratitude to the Christians for their enormous contributions towards the successful realization of the Co-Cathedral and encouraged them not to relent efforts in building the house of God.
He also extended gratitude to the national director of Pontifical Mission Societies Rev. Fr. Cletus Amah and the secretary, for joining the Eucharistic celebration and for the support received from the Holy Father through the Pontifical Mission Societies to roof the Co-Cathedral and carry out other projects in the Diocese.
The celebration also served as the closing mass of the meeting of National executives of the Catholic Men Association , who during the mass offered to the parish a statute of St. Joseph . The prelate saluted these men of honor for their service to the church and for supporting the diocese over the years.
This Pontifical Mass also saw the installation of the new leaders of the Brothers of St. Martin of Buea during which Brother Singfred Sinior was installed as the new superior general alongside his council members, with a six year mandate to serve the congregation.
Worthy of note is the fact that over 40 candidates received the sacrament of confirmation in the course of the Eucharistic celebration. The Bishop invited these newly confirmed and the entire Christian community to be true witnesses of the gospel.
