In a bid to strengthen their integration and vocation within the Diocese of Buea, young priests who have been ordained for five years or less took part in a one-day intensive formation session. The event, held at the Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Center on September 25th 2024, was organized by the Diocese of Buea and chaired by Rev. Fr. Jude Mbi, the Vicar General of the Diocese, along with Rev. Fr. Bartholomew, Vicar for Clergy, and Rev. Fr. Mbuwir Michael, Chancellor of the Diocese.
The formation exercise aimed to equip the priests with essential knowledge and skills for their pastoral duties. It provided a comprehensive overview of key diocesan policies and guidelines designed to foster unity, professionalism, and effective pastoral care within the diocese.
Rev. Fr. Bartholomew, in his 15-minute presentation, emphasized the importance of ongoing formation in the priesthood. He encouraged the young clergy to continuously seek growth in their vocation, as learning and adaptation are crucial for their spiritual and pastoral journey.
Following this, Rev. Fr. Jude Mbi took the stage to explain the proper management of registers in parishes and diocesan institutions. His talk highlighted the need for accuracy and accountability in administrative tasks, which play a pivotal role in maintaining transparency within the Church’s operations.
The priests also received insights into pastoral life within the Diocese of Buea, including the use of corporate emails and phone numbers for communication, Diocesan finance policies, and life in the presbyteries. These discussions were aimed at ensuring that priests remain aligned with the expectations and standards set by the diocese for a harmonious working environment.
An interactive group panel discussion allowed the young priests to share ideas and offer proposals for the improvement of diocesan practices.
In his closing remarks, Rev. Fr. Jude Mbi expressed gratitude to the priests for their active participation. He encouraged them to be exemplary leaders in the areas to which they have been assigned, reminding them of the importance of dedication, humility, and commitment to their priestly duties.
The one-day formation session marks another step in the Diocese of Buea’s commitment to nurturing the spiritual and professional growth of its clergy, ensuring that they are well-prepared to serve their communities with integrity and devotion.
