Preparations have intensified in prelude to the launching of the 75th anniversary of creation of the Diocese of Buea; the mother diocese in Cameroon. On Saturday the 16th of March, members of the enlarged steering committee for the 75th anniversary, convened in the conference room of the Bishop’s House in Small Soppo to finalize plans for a successful launching of the anniversary which comes up on the 18th of April 2024 at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral with the celebration of Mass beginning at 9.am.
With the liturgy being the focus of this celebration, the launching is aimed at thanking God for the opportunity to celebrate 75 years of evangelization come April 2025 and to open up for a year-long activities that will lead to the peak celebration in 2025. Ahead of the celebration, the various committees explained their activity plan and invited others to support each other for greater achievement of results.
The Liturgy committee presented a prayer to St Michael the Arch angel and a 75th anniversary prayer that will be distributed to Christians on the day of the launching and these prayers it was noted, shall be prayed through ought the anniversary year. In addition, the souvenir committee noted that the anniversary fabric shall be available and launched on the day of the anniversary launching at the cost of 10,000frs per piece.
Equally, the Communication Committee informed members of a television programme organized on DMRTV every Wednesdays at 7.45pm, to capture issues related to the anniversary. A calendar of activity for the anniversary was presented to members and activities include the Diocesan pilgrimage to Rome which will run from the 1st to the 9th of May 2024, the diamond jubilee celebration of CWA scheduled for the 22nd of July 2024, the different celebrations that will take place at the level of deaneries, among others.
Worthy to note is the fact that the 75th anniversary shall be celebrated under the theme: “Proclaim the Good News, I Am With You Always” cf. Matthew 28:19-20.
Chairing the meeting, the Vicar General Reverend Fr. Jude Mbi, lauded the efforts and contributions made by made by Committee members and encouraged them to remain focus as the launching approaches.
