Buea, Cameroon – Members from diverse parishes and Diocesan Services gathered today at the Bishop Pius Awa Memorial Pastoral Center for the annual budget defense meeting of the Diocese of Buea. Chaired by His Lordship Michael M. Bibi, the Bishop of the Diocese of Buea, the meeting recorded an impressive turnout of over 100 attendees.
In his opening remarks, Bishop Bibi expressed sincere gratitude to the parish priests and members of various diocesan services for their immense sacrifices in generating income for various Diocesan projects. Recognizing their pivotal role in the development strides within the Diocese, the Bishop emphasized the collective efforts of different parishes and services in fundraising for the church.
The prelate urged all present to work together as a family and collaborate effectively, emphasizing that services not generating income can lean on those currently doing so.
Addressing the financial aspect, Diocesan Finance Controller, Mr. Anthony, underscored the importance of fiscal responsibility. He urged parishes and services to operate within their budgets, announcing a forthcoming restriction that will require each parish or service to strictly adhere to its approved yearly budget.
The meeting progressed with each parish’s Finance team defending their budget. The projected income and expenditure were presented, with adjustments discussed collaboratively.
Madame Joyce, the General Manager of Regina Pacis Microfinance, provided a broader perspective, delivering a brief presentation on category 2 microfinance and its services available to members of the Diocese and the general public. She informed those present that REPAFIN does not only grant loans to Diocesan workers, individuals, and different diocesan services but also offer financial advice to those in need.
During the interactive session, attendees were given the opportunity to pose questions and provide suggestions about the Diocese’s financial state, fostering an open dialogue for the collective good of the church.
In his closing remarks, Bishop Bibi once again extended gratitude to all attendees, urging members of parish finance councils, heads of services, and others to acquire a copy of the Diocese’s finance policy to enhance the effectiveness of their roles in sustaining the financial health of the church. The meeting concluded on a note of unity, responsibility, and shared commitment to the growth of the Diocese of Buea.
