The Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral is undergoing a transformation with the swift installation of new benches. Contractors hired for the task are working diligently to meet the deadline for delivering the benches, which were pre-paid by Christians during the November 2023 fundraising.
Close to a hundred benches have already been produced and placed inside the expansive Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral, giving the structure a refreshed appearance. A makeshift workshop has been set up just outside the co-cathedral, where additional benches are being crafted daily.
The Diocese of Buea plans to purchase approximately 406 benches at a cost of 125,000 CFA francs per bench.
During the dual celebration of the thanksgiving Mass for the completed co-cathedral roof and the bench launch on November 22nd, 2023, Christians generously donated 33,790,900 CFA francs. This sum covers the cost of 270 benches, showcasing their appreciation and encouragement for the significant progress achieved at the co-cathedral under the leadership of His Lordship Michael Bibi.
Bishop Bibi, who prioritized the co-cathedral project since assuming leadership in 2020, has pledged transparency in managing all Diocesan projects.
Acknowledging the generosity of the Christians under his care, Bishop Bibi expresses gratitude that his Christians are among the most generous. Recently, he conducted a courtesy visit to the co-cathedral on Monday, January 15th, 2024, to personally assess the progress of the work at the site.
