The SOBA America day 2023 was a fine celebration of class, with thanks giving to God for the many blessings on the ex-students of this remarkable institution St. Joseph’s College Sasse. This day set aside for the home coming of soba America associates commenced with a Eucharistic celebration by His Lordship Michael Bibi to give glory to God who in his mercy made it possible for ex-students, current students, staff, administrators and parents of this college to gather as one family and commemorate soba America day.
In his homily Bishop Michael called on this community of persons to be fruitful servants and tenants in the vineyard of God who has blessed each and everyone one with different gifts . He reminded Christians that by rejecting God, they are rejecting their privileged position in Gods vineyard. The Chief Shepherd called on these students to work hard, go in for excellence and to be prayerful at all times so that they may be a source of joy to themselves, their parents and the staff of this prestigious institution.
To SOBA America associates, it was a moment for the proprietor bishop Michael Bibi to appreciate their love and generous support in kind and in cash for their alma mater, while advising them to be in collaboration with the administrators of the school at all times. The vision he noted is to make “sasse great again”.The prelate further thanked the parents for their trust in the standards provided by this college and urged them to respect the roles and regulations set forth by the administrators to achieve excellence. To the teachers, whom the he termed the movers of this institution, the proprietor Bishop Michael congratulated their efforts and sacrifices in grooming nation builders and asked them not to relent in this call.
SOBA America day it should be noted is one set aside to thank God and recognize meritorious students for academic excellence, hard work as well as good moral standards and cleanliness.
According to the president of Soba America, Dr. Bertrand Fote who on this day was represented by czar Njukeng Asong; public relations officer of soba America, this day is one that provides an opportunity for SOBA America affiliates to give back to St Joseph’s College Sasse; a school that gave SOBANS so much. The event witnessed scholarship awards to students based on different categories including Need Based Award grounded on demonstrated need for financial assistance, Merit Based Awards to students who exhibited exemplary behavior throughout the previous academic year , and Lottery Based Awards aimed at encouraging students to work hard.
In recognition of outstanding performance at the 2023 General Certificate examination, a one million francs cash prize was handed to mafany ovase for making the institution proud by scoring 25points at the GCE advanced level . Soba America also presented a teacher of the year award to the teacher who demonstrated excellence and won the honour of being the best teacher for the past academic year.
Besides the project to complete the tarring of the road leading to the school campus amongst other projects, Rev. Fr. Desmond Ndikum a SOBAN in America announced a 40 million frs project taken up in collaboration with Bishop Michael Bibi aimed at giving a facelift to the Chapel where they gained spiritual nourishment during their stay in this institution; a place they consider close to their hearts. SOBA America has supported this project with the sum of 5000 USD. The project will commence by November 2023
To the principal of St Joseph’s College Sasse Rev. Fr. Jude Njanto this was a special day for this institution of learning, one which brought joy to both students and staff of this citadel of learning.
Closing this celebration, His excellency Michael Bibi expressed gratitude to all the members of Soba America for the love showered on their alma mater and for facilitating his responsibility in maintaining the standards of this college.
SOBA America day is celebrated every second Sunday of October each year.
