A total of 543 students and pupils received the Sacrament of Confirmation today, May 10th, 2025, at the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral, Molyko Buea, in a spirit-filled celebration presided over by the Bishop of Buea, His Lordship Michael Bibi.
The twin ceremony also featured the Catholic Education Family’s contribution of their Cathedraticum—a show of support for the Bishop’s pastoral mission. Over 6 million francs CFA was raised during the event.

In his homily, Bishop Bibi reminded the faithful that during Confirmation, Christians receive the Holy Spirit and all His gifts, empowering them to live as true witnesses of Christ. He expressed deep gratitude to all those who helped prepare the candidates, including teachers, catechists, school administrators, and chaplains.
The 543 candidates came from various Catholic primary and secondary schools across the Diocese, including, for the first time, students from Saker Baptist College Limbe and a student from the Buea School for the Deaf. This milestone underscores the Bishop’s commitment to inclusivity and his role as a shepherd to all.

Bishop Michael Bibi during his homily
Referencing Deuteronomy 6:1–9, Bishop Bibi reminded the faithful that “The Lord our God is one Lord”, and Christians must give God the first place in their lives. He emphasized the importance of witnessing our love for God so others may come to know and follow Him.
The Bishop also highlighted the Christian call to proclaim the Gospel in every sector of society. Citing the many miracles performed by St. Peter, he noted that Peter’s closeness to Christ enabled him to do great things, and similarly, the students’ faith in Christ can empower them to achieve the extraordinary. He urged them to remain close to Christ, especially in times of difficulty.

Rev. Fr. Vincent Mesue, Catholic Education Secretary, expressed his joy over the growing diversity and inclusion in the Confirmation ceremony. He noted that the participation of students from Saker Baptist College and the Buea School for the Deaf demonstrates the spirit of communion and Bishop Bibi’s inclusive leadership.
Fr. Mesue also encouraged school administrators and teachers not to tire of their noble mission of educating and forming young people in the faith, values, and knowledge.
