The 2024 convention of the ex-students of Bishop Rogan College, Soppo – Buea (BIROCOL EXSA) in the United States of America was one of its kind. Hosted by the Minnesota Chapter in the city of Minneapolis from June 7 -9, this annual event that brings together EXSANS from all the eleven chapters in the United States, was celebrated in the context of the 75th and 60th anniversaries of the Diocese of Buea and Bishop Rogan College (BIROCOL) respectively.
The EXSANS were thrilled by the historic presence of the Mgr. Michael Bibi, Bishop of Buea and proprietor of BIROCOL. An EXSAN himself, Bishop Bibi participated fully in the three-day event: his august presence was conspicuous around the football field on Friday in the match between BIROCOL EXSA and the ex-students of SASSE that marked the commencement of the convention.
Bishop Bibi was also actively present during the winning and dining at the farewell Barbecue on Sunday after the closing Mass that marked the end of the convention.
Being an elective year, the Annual General Assembly (AGM) produced a new executive team comprising of the following officials: President: Richard Lokombe, Vice-president: Bernard Awah Tah, Secretary: D. J. Nkwain Fichanfie, Vice Secretary: Angelbert Chikere, Treasurer: Fritz Chofor, Financial Secretary: Cosmas Nyonga, PRO 1: Cosmas Nyonga, PRO 2: Fru Ntum
This 2024 come-together has empowered the EXSANS in U.S.A to continue the cherished practice of giving back to the college as huge funds were raised during the gala night on Saturday that was graced by the presence and performances of music legends Petit Pays and Jean Pierre Essome.
With EXSANS, wives of EXSANS, and their children returning home after the memorable convention that the Minnesota Chapter superbly organized, the core message of Bishop Bibi keeps ringing in every heart: EXSANS must remain true to their identity as products of Bishop Rogan College, the formation ground for priests and good Christians who teach by words and deeds in the capacity of “salt of the earth and lux mundi (light of the world)” as the college Anthem aptly puts it.
